Oswego State field hockey team comes up short in Ithaca

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Oswego State field hockey team ran into a solid goaltending performance as it lost to Ithaca, 2-0, Wednesday afternoon. Bomber goalie Kelly Singleton recorded 11 saves to pick up the home team’s third win. The Lakers (0-3) will have more than a week off before opening the home portion of their schedule against Morrisville on Friday, Sept. 14 at 4 p.m.

Ithaca got on the scoreboard in the 28th minute when Lindsay Flanagan scored on a rebound after Oswego State goalie Grace Lombardi (Fr., Ossining, N.Y.) stopped Julia Conroy’s initial shot from inside the circle. The Bombers went on to take the one-goal edge into halftime due in large part to Singleton posting nine saves.

Ithaca carried over the momentum into the second frame, as Conroy registered her fifth goal of the season from five yards out after she received a cross from Emily Lash on the right side in the first 90 seconds.

Oswego State turned up the aggressiveness on the defensive end in the final 18 minutes, resulting in seven penalty corners. However, the Lakers were only able to come away with three wide shots and one blocked shot on those opportunities.

Lombardi ended the game with nine saves in the losing effort.
