Oswego State men’s lacrosse routs Canton

OSWEGO, N.Y. – Seniors Casey Balzer (Nassau, N.Y.) and Connor Brown (Syracuse, N.Y.) combined to score five goals in the opening six minutes, as the Oswego State men’s lacrosse team (8-7) closed out the season with a 23-2 rout over SUNY Canton (5-6) Saturday on Senior Day.

With the Lakers leading 5-0 in the first quarter, Nick Giampaolo (Jr., Setauket, N.Y.), Cody Hoose (So., Syracuse, N.Y.), Jimmy Cordon (So., Camillus, N.Y.) and Connor Khammar (So., Camillus, N.Y.) each found the back of the cage before the end of the stanza.

Giampaolo scored the only man-up goal of the game with 13:13 on the clock in the second, as Oswego State notched seven more goals to hold a 17-0 lead at halftime. Laker goalie Bryan Martin (Jr., St. James, N.Y.) made two saves in a half that the home team dominated.

Mike Galka (Jr., Auburn, N.Y.) registered his first goal of the season at the start of the second half before Jason Thompson put the Roos on the board. Ben Morrill (So., Webster, N.Y.) tallied both of his goals in the third quarter, while Tyler Calkin (Jr., Endicott, N.Y.) and Brian Weinert (So., Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) scored.

Each team traded goals in the fourth as Oswego State cruised to the victory.

Troy Crevier (Fr., Webster, N.Y.) and Ron Mckay (So., Waterford, N.Y.) combined to go 23-for-29 on faceoffs for the Lakers with Mckay scooping up 11 groundballs and Crevier recording eight.

Hoose and Brown finished with five points on two goals and three goals each, while Giampaolo added two goals and two assists.

Oswego State has posted overall records above .500 in back-to-back seasons for the first time since the 1996 and 1997 seasons.

Prior to the game, the Lakers recognized this year’s five seniors: Dan Allgeier (Bayport, N.Y.), Balzer, Brown, Kyle DeRosa (Fairport, N.Y.) and Josh Roetzer (Williamsville, N.Y.).
