DALLAS, Pa. – The Oswego State men’s lacrosse team (5-0) took a 6-0 halftime lead and never looked back, as the Lakers handed Misericordia its first loss of the season in a 11-4 decision Wednesday afternoon.
Jimmy Cordon (So., Camillus, N.Y.) and Connor Brown (Sr., Syracuse, N.Y.) combined to score seven goals for the visitors, while Cody Hoose (So., Syracuse, N.Y.) finished with four points on a goal and three assists.
Connor Brown netted the first two Oswego State goals in the first four minutes of the first quarter when he received passes from Nick Giampaolo (Jr., Setauket, N.Y.) and Casey Balzer (Sr., Nassau, N.Y.). Minutes later, Mike Koos (So., West Islip, N.Y.) found Matt Palmer (So., Pittsford, N.Y.) open for his fourth goal of the season, prompting Misericordia to call timeout with 8:31 left in the quarter. The Lakers scored their final goal of the frame after Jimmy Cordon buried a pass from Cody Hoose.
Cordon and Hoose registered both second-quarter Oswego State goals in a 19-second span ten minutes into the frame, as the Lakers entered halftime leading 6-0.
The Cougars got on the scoreboard little more than three minutes into the third quarter with a goal by J.R. Lauri. Balzer scored right off the next faceoff before Cordon added a man-up goal following a Misericordia slashing penalty. By the end of the quarter, Oswego State held a 9-2 advantage after a Laker goal score by Brown and a Cougar marker by Josh Schwartz.
The home team tallied the two goals in the fourth quarter before Oswego State recorded two goals in the final three minutes courtesy of Giampaolo and Cordon.
Laker goalie Bryan Martin (Jr., St. James, N.Y.) stopped seven shots in the contest, while Patrick Johnson made 12 saves for Misericordia. Troy Crevier (Fr., Webster, N.Y.) helped the Oswego State offense set up its attack winning 16 out of 18 faceoffs.
The Lakers put their record on the line on Saturday when they travel to Morrisville to face the Mustangs at 11 a.m.
