UNIONDALE, N.Y. – The Oswego State men’s lacrosse team opened the season with an 8-1 win against SUNY Maritime in a neutral site game in Uniondale.
It was Maritime’s second game of the year, dropping it to 1-1 on the year.
Oswego dominated action throughout, outshooting the Privateers 34-19 while picking up 12 more ground balls (34-22). The Lakers also cared for the ball well in transition, successfully completing 20-of-23 clear attempts.
On offense, the squad was led by a trio of players with two goals apiece. Upperclassmen Troy Crevier andConnor Khammar each notched two while freshman Luke Krizman matched their efforts. Krizman’s classmate, Tyler Nason, also added a goal as did junior-transfer James Lennon.
In the assist column, senior captain Nick Giampaolo paced all Lakers with two helpers. Khammar, Krizman and Zach Anderson each distributed one assist to aid the offensive effort.
Anderson showed the way on 50/50 balls, collecting an Oswego-high five ground balls. Nason and Teddy Phillips gathered four apiece to gain or keep the ball in Laker possession. Also on the possession front, Kyle Wistner, Daid Barry and Ryan Kennish tied for a team-high with two caused turnovers.
In net, Wyatt Russo made eight saves while only allowing the one Privateer goal to go to 1-0 on the fresh season.
Oswego will return to action at 12 p.m. on Sunday at United States Merchant Marine Academy.
