Oswego State men’s soccer team drops 2-1 decision

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Sophomore Ryan Purdy (Stormville, N.Y.) scored late to put the Oswego State men’s soccer team (1-4-0) within striking distance, but it was not enough as the Lakers lost 2-1 at Morrisville (2-2-1) on Wednesday.

Morrisville netted a goal late in the first half to take a 1-0 lead into the break. The Mustangs out-shot the Lakers 6-5 in the first half, but Oswego State doubled Morrisville’s corner kick chances with four.

Just over ten minutes into the second half, the Mustangs struck again. Morrisville’s Jacob Chase scored for the second time in the game to double the lead.

Purdy tried to rally the troops with a goal off an assist from junior Mike Naab (Ontario, N.Y.) in the 78th minute. The Lakers had nine shots on goal, compared to just six for their opponents. However, the Lakers were kept off the scoreboard for the rest of the game, resulting in their fourth straight loss.

Senior P.J. Goodwin (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) finished the game with four saves for Oswego State. Rob Larkin made eight stops for the Mustangs.

Oswego State travels to Rochester on Saturday to match up with RIT at 1:30 p.m.
