Oswego State softball team comes up short

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Oswego State softball team (2-6) posted a split on Monday after the Lakers defeated Bowdoin, 5-3, and a late rally came up short in a 4-2 loss to UW-Stout.

In the day’s first game, both squads scored a run, as the Laker run was scored by Alexis Nasca (Fr., Hamburg, N.Y.) after an RBI single from Justine Abramowski (So., Levittown, N.Y.).

Bowdoin added another run in the third, but Oswego State answered back once again with three runs to grab a 4-2 lead. Nicole Ouellette (Sr., Castleton, N.Y.) tied the game with an RBI single following a Nasca double. Later in the frame, Katie Bredin (Jr., Oneonta, N.Y.) delivered the key at-bat of the game with a two-RBI double.

The Lakers tacked on an insurance run in the fourth after Dee Apps (Jr., Camillus, N.Y.) started the inning with a walk. Nasca then hit a double to give Oswego State a pair of runners in scoring position. Apps came around to score following fielder’s choice off Sue Schoff’s (Sr., Little Falls, N.Y.) bat. The Polar Bears scored a run in the sixth, but Nasca closed out the game strong for the win and the complete game.

Monday’s nightcap was a pitchers’ duel for most of the contest until the Blue Devils tallied three runs in the top of the sixth and plated another in the seventh for a 4-0 lead entering the Lakers’ final at-bat.

Oswego State mounted a rally though when Apps and Nasca started the frame with back-to-back singles before a two-run by Abramowski brought around both Lakers to cut the deficit in half. However, that was where the rally stopped as Oswego State came up short.

The Lakers wrap up their Spring Break trip on March 19 against Lawrence and Hope College starting at 9 a.m.
