Oswego State Swimming & Diving Splits Action Against RIT

OSWEGO – The Oswego State men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams opened the 2011-12 season with a dual meet against RIT on Wednesday night at Laker Pool resulting in the women’s squad defeating the Tigers by the score of 129-108, while the men’s squad falling by the score of 160-83. The Lakers will compete at home on Saturday against Oneonta at 1 p.m.

The Laker women held a slim seven-point lead going into the 100 breaststroke, but were able to finish 1-2-3 in the event led by Delia Reed (Sr., Great Neck, N.Y.), who posted a time of 1:12.11 followed by Katie Maye (Sr., Binghamton, N.Y.) and Katie Flood (So., Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y.) with times of 1:13.06 and 1:13.21, respectively.

Oswego State opened the meet by winning the women’s 200 medley relay in a time of 1:54.83 and closed out the meet by winning the women’s 200 freestyle relay in a time of 1:45.17. Members of the medley relay consisted of Erin Molloy (So., Canandaigua, N.Y.), Reed, Sabia Filiaci (Fr., Schenectady, N.Y.), and Katie Russell (So., Rochester, N.Y.). Molloy also captured first place in the 100 backstroke with a result of 1:05.39. Molly Heagerty (Sr., Fulton, N.Y.), Russell, Laurie Jackson (So., Saratoga Springs, N.Y.), and Ivy Lopez (So., Oswego, N.Y.) comprised the freestyle relay.

Flood took first place in the 200 IM by nearly five seconds with a time of 2:22.00, and took second in the 100 free (56.61). Filiaci later added a win in the 100 butterfly (1:02.00) and a second-place finish in the 50 free (25.76).

Additional second-place results came from Stacy Cich (So., Grand Island, N.Y.) in the 200 free (2:06.21) and the 500 free (5:40.53), Samantha Moss (So., Smithtown, N.Y.) on the 1-meter board (139.50 pts.) and the 3-meter board (152.45 pts.), and Jackson in the 1000 freestyle (11:53.77).

On the men’s side, the Lakers went 1-2 in the 50 freestyle as Rudy Trosin (Fr., Walworth, N.Y.) out-touched teammate Nick Dupree (Sr., Vestal, N.Y.) by two-hundredths with a time of 22.59 seconds. Trosin also posted a second-place finish in the 100 backstroke after clocking a time of 58.95. Dereck Harmon (Jr., Clinton, Mass.) captured first place in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:03.78.

Jordan Prophet (Fr., Brockville, Ont.) had a strong showing in his first collegiate meet by winning the 200 IM by more than seven seconds with a result of 2:04.84, and claiming second in the 1000 freestyle (10:30.60) and the 500 freestyle (4:56.18).

Additional second-place finishes came from Andrew Minnick (So., Latham, N.Y.) in the 200 freestyle (1:51.52) and the 200 freestyle relay (1:30.50). Trosin, Minnick, Ben Palais (So., Rye, N.Y.), and Dupree were members of the relay team.
