Oswego State Swimming Sweeps Clarkson

POTSDAM, N.Y. – The Oswego State men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams picked up a pair of wins over Clarkson Saturday afternoon in Potsdam. The Laker men defeated the Golden Knights, 132-100, for their first dual meet win of the season, while the women’s squad beat Clarkson, 129-90, to improve to 2-1 in dual competition. Oswego State competes next weekend at New Paltz on Saturday at 1 p.m.

The Laker women set the tone early by going 1-2 in the 200 medley relay with times of 2:13.64 and 2:18.49, respectively. Members of the first-place relay included Erin Molloy (So., Canandaigua, N.Y.), Delia Reed (Sr., Great Neck, N.Y.), Sabia Filiaci (Fr., Schenectady, N.Y.), and Molly Heagerty (Sr., Fulton, N.Y.), while Kelsy Quigley (So., Lansing, N.Y.), Katie Flood (So., Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y.), Ivy Lopez (So., Oswego, N.Y.), and Ashley Rode (So., Hilton, N.Y.) comprised the second relay team.

Kasey Simmons (So., Cicero, N.Y.) and Laurie Jackson (So., Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) followed up that performance with first- and second-place finishes in the 800 freestyle with times of 10:30.55 and 10:32.67, respectively. Flood and Stacy Cich (So., Grand Island, N.Y.) took first (2:21.77) and second (2:23.97) in the 200 freestyle. Cich later won the 400 freestyle by nearly eight seconds in 5:04.39 followed by Simmons in 5:12.27.

Filiaci also captured top honors in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:53.57, while Heagerty won the 100 freestyle in 1:05.03. Katie Russell (So., Rochester, N.Y.) was the first swimmer to touch the wall in the 200 backstroke (2:50.97). Samantha Ross (So., Smithtown, N.Y.) swept the 1- and 3-meter diving events with 151.60 and 151.00 points, respectively, while Kayla Fermoile (So., Grand Island, N.Y.) was second on the 1-meter board with 144.20 points.

Additional second-place results were turned in by Russell in the 50 free (30.13) and Lopez in the 200 individual medley (2:50.49) to help the Laker cause.

Adam Weber (Jr., Clarence, N.Y.), Dereck Harmon (Jr., Clinton, Mass.), Nick Dupree (Sr., Vestal, N.Y.), and Phillip MacLeod (Fr., Liverpool, N.Y.) combined to out-touch Clarkson in the 200 medley relay on the men’s side for first place with a time of 1:57.05.

Andrew Minnick (So., Latham, N.Y.) and Matt Pamlanye (So., Holbrook, N.Y.) swept the 200 individual medley with times of 2:25.70 and 2:29.93, respectively, while Dupree out-touched Minnick by 0.57 seconds in the 100 freestyle for first place. Jordan Prophet (Fr., Brockville, Ont.) won the 200 freestyle by more than five seconds with a time of 2:00.56 and the 400 freestyle by nearly 21 seconds (4:21.32). Rudy Trosin (Fr., Walworth, N.Y.) rounded out the first-place finishes with a time of 25.72 in the 50 free. Joe O’Brien (Jr., Middletown, N.Y.) also swept the diving events after posting 217.30 points on the 1-meter board and 221.30 points on the 3-meter board.

Additional second-place finishes came from Tom Schmid (So., Liverpool, N.Y.) in the 800 free (9:32.67), Weber in the 200 backstroke (2:25.02), and Devon Chandler (Fr., Binghamton, N.Y) on the 3-meter board with 188.00 points.
