Oswego State Volleyball Notches First Win At Potsdam/Victory Promotions Invitational

POTSDAM, N.Y. – The Oswego State volleyball team recorded its first win of the season on Saturday afternoon when it defeated Cazenovia 3-0 (25-22, 25-15, 25-23) to move to 1-4 overall at the Potsdam/Victory Promotions Invitational.  Earlier in the day, the Lakers fell to SUNYIT in straight sets by the scores of 25-8, 25-17, 25-12.  Setter Kara Michelsen (Fr., Lake View, N.Y.) was named to the all-tournament team as voted on by the coaches.

Against SUNYIT, Meaghan Puff (So., Newfane, N.Y.) led the offense with five kills followed closely by four kills each between Lauren Weaver (Fr., Schoharie, N.Y.) and Stephanie Bailey(Fr., Scotia, N.Y.), who also contributed three blocks.  Michelsen handed out 11 assists withSam Manicone (Copiague, N.Y.) registering eight digs.

In the final match of the tournament, Michelsen tallied 21 assists to go along with four kills.  Bailey controlled the net with seven kills and four blocks, while Caitlin Wright (So., Lockport, N.Y.) had a solid match with six kills and 13 digs.  Defensively, the Lakers also received strong efforts from Manicone, Weaver, and Kim Grice (Jr., Syracuse, N.Y.), who posted 18, nine, and eight digs, respectively.

Oswego State will face St. John Fisher on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Rochester.
