Oswego State Volleyball Struggles In Second Round of SUNYAC Pool Play

The Oswego State volleyball dropped four matches in straight sets during the second round of SUNYAC pool play in Fredonia on Friday and Saturday. The Lakers lost to Geneseo (15-25, 16-25, 22-25), Brockport (15-25, 17-25, 22-25), Buffalo State (17-25, 14-25, 22-25), and Fredonia (15-25, 9-25, 19-25). Oswego State fell to 7-23 overall and 0-8 in the conference standings.

In the first match of the weekend against Geneseo, Jess Isgro (So., Brockport, N.Y.) led the Laker attack with six kills. Liz Crouch (Jr., Honeoye Falls, N.Y.) turned in an all-around performance with 20 assists, eight digs, and two blocks, while Shauna Westrack (Fr., Nesconset, N.Y.) amassed 20 digs.

Three players, Katie van Kessel (So., Millbrook, N.Y.), Alyssa Brock (Sr., Pine Bush, N.Y.), and Isgro, tallied five kills each versus Brockport, as Isgro also added eight digs. Crouch contributed 17 assists and two more blocks in the loss.

On Saturday, Brock and Isgro recorded seven kills apiece against the Bengals of Buffalo State. Freshman Chelsea Crump (Sandy Creek, N.Y.) turned in three blocks, while Stephany Olsheski (Fr., Brockport, N.Y.) and Crouch combined for 22 assists.

In the final match of pool play against host Fredonia, Isgro paced the Lakers with three kills and two blocks. Kelsey Ihle (Fr., Clarence Center, N.Y.) came in to post seven digs, as Olsheski contributed six assists.

Oswego State closes out the season at home against Cortland on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
