Oswego State Women’s Basketball Defeats Brockport 75-61

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – Three Lakers scored at least ten points to help the Oswego State women’s basketball team defeat Brockport, 75-61, Saturday afternoon in Brockport. Head coach Tracy Bruno’s squad was also aided by shooting 53.3 percent (8-of-15) from behind the three-point arc in the contest. The Lakers moved to 4-4 in the SUNYAC and 7-8 overall, while the Golden Eagles fell to 2-6 in the league and 4-11 overall.

Kayla Ryan paced Oswego State with 18 points and went 9-of-12 from the charity stripe. Jenna Rossi and Colleen McCready chipped in 17 and 16 points, respectively. Wanda Sanchez pulled down 11 rebounds at the guard position for the Lakers. Alex Leung and Sarah Alwardt contributed 14 points each for Brockport.

With 14:36 left in the first half and the score tied at 10-10, Oswego State rattled off 14 unanswered points after Kassie Kleine drilled a three-pointer immediately after coming into the contest. The Golden Eagles also committed four turnovers as the Lakers went ahead 24-10. Oswego State went on to shoot 55.9 percent (5-of-9) from long range during the frame to carry a 40-23 into halftime.

The lead ballooned to 20 points near the midway point of the stanza following a Meagan Stover three as the Lakers cruised to the 75-61 win.

Oswego State controlled the glass as it out-rebounded Brockport, 44-35, including a +8 advantage on the offensive boards.

The Lakers close out the first half of the conference schedule Tuesday when they travel to New Paltz for a 6 p.m. contest.
