NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The No. 6-seed Oswego State women’s basketball team held a halftime lead over No. 3-seed New Paltz on Tuesday night, but a decisive 16-2 Hawk run early in the second half proved to be insurmountable in a 69-54 Laker loss. Senior Traci Bacon came off the bench to score a game-high 17 points for Oswego State, which ended the season with an overall record of 11-15. New Paltz improved to 16-10 on the season.
Meagan Stover joined Bacon in double-digits with 15 points, while the Hawks kept Kayla Ryan in check with seven points, all of which came from the charity stripe. Four New Paltz players scored at least ten points, including Caitlin Irwin and Shanay Bradley, who tallied 11 each, and Maliqua Fisher and Zoe Cohen, who added 10 each. Bradley also pulled down 13 rebounds for the double-double.
The Hawks controlled the paint, outscoring Oswego State 44-20 in the lane, and owning a 48-29 rebound advantage. It was not a crisp game from either side as the squads combined to commit 49 turnovers.
