Oswego State women’s basketball team falls on the road

GENESEO, NY – The Oswego State women’s basketball team dropped a 55-40 contest at Geneseo on Tuesday. With the defeat, the Lakers fall to 3-15 overall and 1-10 in conference play while the Knights, the SUNYAC’s top team, improves to 14-4, 9-2.

All six players that appeared in the contest recorded four points or more, led by Mary Mazzella’s 14 points. Next in the points column was Sarah Feminella with eight, followed by a pair of five-point outings from Courtney Ameele and Nicole SantaMaria. Rounding out the Laker scorers were Tayler Sorell and Zana Dillard, each with four.

It was a team effort on the glass as rebounding was close between the squads, with Geneseo holding a one-board margin (48-47).

Ameele had a career and game high 13 boards, 12 of which came on the defensive end. Close behind was Dillard, corralling 11 boards. Mazzella added eight while SantaMaria grabbed seven.

Mazzella also recorded team highs with four steals and three assists.

Oswego will be back on the court at 5:30 p.m. on Friday when the visiting Blue Devils of Fredonia come to Max Ziel Gymnasium.
