PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – Nikki Liadka (Jr., Liverpool, N.Y.) scored for the second straight day as the Oswego State women’s soccer team (5-4-0, 2-2-0 SUNYAC) evened its league record after a 2-1 win over Plattsburgh (5-6-0, 1-2-0 SUNYAC).
The Lakers’ second shot of the game resulted in a goal by Bri Dolan (So., Fayetteville, N.Y.) at the 18-minute mark. After the Oswego State goal, the Cardinals fought back, trying to tie the game. They took three shots before tying the game on a goal off a free kick right outside the top of the box by Emily LaLone 34 minutes into the game.
Less than three minutes after the Plattsburgh goal, Liadka scored to put the visiting team back on top. Georgia Traynor (So., Tomkins Cove, N.Y.) assisted the eventual game-winner. Monica D’Ippolito was replaced by Danielle Schmitt in goal before the half was over.
For most of the second half, both teams played solid defense as neither team scored. Towards the end of the half, the Cardinals became more aggressive as they attempted to even the score. On the last shot of the game, LaLone kicked a shot just wide to preserve the Laker victory.
Emily Varonier (Sr., Miller Place, N.Y.) made six saves in the win, while D’Ippolito did not make a save to suffer the loss. Schmitt made three saves for the Cardinals.
Oswego State looks to win its third game in a row when it goes on the road to face Fredonia on Friday at 4 p.m.
