OSWEGO, NY – The Oswego State women’s soccer team capped off its regular season with a 3-1 victory over Cortland on Saturday afternoon at Laker Soccer Field.
With the win, Oswego improves to 6-7-3 on the year and 3-3-3 in conference play.
Cortland falls to 6-6-2 overall and 5-2-2 in the conference.
Despite the win, Oswego was eliminated from SUNYAC Championship contention with Plattsburgh’s 4-1 win over Brockport.
Cortland nabbed the No. 2 seed in the tournament and will play host to the winner of the No. 6 seed versus the No. 3 seed at 1 p.m. on Nov. 5.
During Family and Friends Weekend on the Oswego campus, the Lakers started the game strong with a goal coming within the first minutes of play.
Freshman Emma Geyer gave Oswego some early momentum with a score that put the Lakers up 1-0 early on.
The Red Dragons would respond, sending a deep shot over the fingertips of a leaping Alyssa Glasshageland into the back of the net.
From there on out, it was all Oswego.
The resilient Laker squad would tack on two more unanswered goals with Sarah Grupp finding teammate Alexa Restante for the first of the pair at 25:20 into the first half.
Oswego State earned a corner kick following a Cortland foul later on. A well-placed ball in front of the net led to a header shot from Emma Greyer that ricocheted off the crossbar.
Amanda Heberger corralled the rebound and sent it past the Red Dragons’ goalkeeper for the Lakers’ final goal.
The Lakers were in control throughout the contest, outshooting their opponents 9-4
Prior to the game, Oswego recognized its graduating teammates, honoring Heberger, Tia Segretto, Steph Hotaling, Bri Dolan and Georgia Traynor on Senior Day.
