MADISON, N.J. – For the second straight day, Bri Dolan (So., Fayetteville, N.Y.) and Georgia Traynor (So., Tomkins Cove, N.Y.) connected for a goal on a free kick to help seal a 2-0 victory for the Oswego State women’s soccer team (2-0-0) over Fairleigh Dickinson-Florham (0-2-0) on Sunday.
FDU-Florham controlled play throughout much of the first half, but Laker keeper Emily Varonier (Sr., Miller Place, N.Y.) recorded three of her four saves in the frame to preserve a scoreless tie.
With less than five minutes left in the half, Amanda Woods (Sr., Newark Valley, N.Y.) came into the contest and made an impact immediately.
Shelly Bateman (Sr., Fulton, N.Y.) took a corner kick with 21 seconds remaining before intermission that found Nikki Liadka’s (Jr., Liverpool, N.Y.) foot.
Woods was, then, able to find the back of the net to give Oswego State a 1-0 edge.
The Lakers continued to dictate play early in the second half, but were unable to pad their lead as they ended the game with an 18-11 shot advantage. In the 72nd and 73rd minutes, FDU-Florham got three shots off with only one finding the net.
Following a FDU-Florham foul at the 50, Georgia Traynor’s free kick again found Bri Dolan for her second goal of the season on a set piece with 5:09 on the clock to put the game away.
Oswego State plays its home opener on Tuesday when it hosts Hamilton at 4 p.m.
