Oswego State women’s soccer team Pounds Cobleskill

OSWEGO, N.Y. – Five different players scored for the Oswego State women’s soccer team (7-9-0) in an 8-0 win over SUNY Cobleskill (3-13-0) on a chilly, windy Sunday afternoon.

Raquel Vescio (Jr., Fulton, N.Y.) got the scoring going fifteen minutes into the game on a pass from Kassie Kleine (Sr., Cazenovia, N.Y.) on the left side of the box. Kleine passed the ball to the middle and Vescio scored. Ten minutes after the first goal, Bailey Waterbury (Fr., Plattsburgh, N.Y.) headed a pass from Paige McCarthy (Jr., Marathon, N.Y.) into the back of the net for the second goal.  Waterbury and McCarthy teamed up again 17 minutes later for another goal.

With one minute left in the half, the Lakers scored twice to bring their total to five. Shelly Bateman (Sr., Fulton, N.Y.) scored from outside the box, making the ball soar into the upper right 90. Taylor Romeo (Fr., Massena, N.Y.) scored on a ball passed from Katie McMahon (Fr., Stormville, N.Y.).

Kleine scored twice for Oswego State in a little over a minute in the second half. On her first goal, Kleine got a ball from Carly Olds (Sr., Andover, N.Y.) and tapped it into the left side of the goal. Then, Bri Dolan (So., Fayetteville, N.Y.) had a corner kick and Bateman got the ball. She tapped it to Kleine, who kicked it home despite the goalie tipping the ball.

Later in the frame, Emily Bannister nearly scored for the Fighting Tigers, but her shot was stopped by Casie Auricchio (Fr., East Syracuse, N.Y.), who drove to her left for the save. The last goal for the game was scored on an own goal by Cobleskill.

Alyssa Glasshagel (Fr., Coram, N.Y.) made zero saves in the first half and Auricchio made two saves in the combined shutout, while Bethany Reynolds made 17 saves in the loss.

The Lakers’ final game of the season is Wednesday against Clarkson at 3 p.m. at Laker Field.
