OSWEGO, NY – The Oswego State women’s soccer team edged out New Paltz 2-0 in a SUNYAC contest on Saturday afternoon at Laker Soccer Field.
Oswego now improves to 4-4-1 on the season and 1-0-1 in conference play while New Paltz falls to 6-4-1, 0-1-1.
Defense prevailed through the midway point as it took 66 minutes before a team would score.
The Lakers got the offense going thanks to a penalty kick from freshman Sarah Grupp – her second goal of the week – giving the Lakers a 1-0 advantage.
Freshman Erin Hussey sealed the Hawks’ fate when her shot ended up in the back of the net and over the leaping New Paltz goalkeeper. Senior Tia Segretto was credited with the assist and led Oswego with three shots-on-goal. Georgia Traynor also chipped in with two shots to keep pressure on the New Paltz defense.
Oswego’s goalie, Alyssa Glasshagel, had a solid outing with four saves in 90 minutes to earn her third shutout of the year and second in as many days.
The Lakers will look to build on their successful weekend of SUNYAC play when they travel to face conference-foe Postdam at 4 p.m. on Friday.
