Oswego State Wrestlers Suffer Setback at Brockport

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – Fresh off of the Empire Collegiate Wrestling Championships, the Oswego State wrestling team (3-7) suffered a 41-5 setback to Brockport (4-1) Wednesday night.

The Golden Eagles tallied five pins in the match to distance themselves from the visitors.

Seniors Omar Santiago (Huntington Station, N.Y.) and Blake Fisher (Seaford, N.Y.) notched both Laker victories in the dual. Santiago picked up his team-leading 19th win of the season after defeating James McCabe by the score of 4-1 at 133 pounds. Fisher extended his current win streak to eight matches following his 6-0 victory over Aaron Dudley at 165 pounds.

Jake DeBuyser nearly closed out the match with an upset win for the Lakers at 285 pounds when he and ninth-ranked John Wilkinson wrestled to a 1-1 tie at the end of regulation. Both wrestlers scored an additional point in the overtime periods, but Wilkinson registered a takedown in the fourth overtime session resulting in the two-point sudden victory.

Oswego State closes out the home portion of its schedule on Saturday when it hosts Oneonta starting at 12 p.m.
