ITHACA, N.Y. – The Oswego State wrestling team tallied 28.5 points to place 13th out of 19 teams at the New York State Collegiate Championships hosted by Cornell University on Saturday.
Omar Santiago (Sr., Huntington Station, N.Y.) posted a 4-1 win over Rory Bruce to advance at 133 pounds, but lost to Alex Gomez, 11-4, to move into the wrestleback. He then defeated Alec Dierna, 6-3, and was the beneficiary of a medical forfeit. Santiago lost to Jamie Franco by the score of 12-2 before finishing in fifth place after earning another medical forfeit.
At 125 pounds, Kevin Ramkishun (So., Queens, N.Y.) defeated Edwin Urchima, 14-3, before falling to top-seed Steve Bonanno, 17-0 in a technical decision. His day ended after being pinned by Army’s Hunter Wood with 17 seconds left in the second period.
Dustin Jones (Fr., Palmyra, N.Y.) posted a record of 2-2 at 149 pounds to finish in seventh place. His victory coming on a pin over Ian Nisley with ten seconds remaining in regulation and earned points for the Lakers after defeating Brady Kwong, 8-0.
Justin Patus (Sr., Sachem, N.Y.) compiled an identical mark of 2-2 at 157 pounds courtesy of a pair of medical forfeits, but fell one match short of reaching placewinner bouts.
At 285 pounds, Kyle Sheridan (Sr., Syracuse, N.Y.) won his first match against Tim Axelsson, 3-0, before dropping back-to-back 3-1 contests.
Select Laker wrestlers will participate in the “B” Bracket Tournament tomorrow (Nov. 18) starting at 9 a.m.
