OSWEGO, NY – A former Pathfinder Bank Small Block Super champion at Oswego Speedway, Dave Gruel will look to close out his first career Supermodified championship at the ‘Steel Palace’ this Saturday.
Gruel has been the model of consistency this season at the Speedway, piloting his Over Drive Marketing U-Pull U-Save Auto Parts No. 50, as he is the only driver this season to have finished in the top ten of every Novelis Supermodified main event in ‘16.
With three heat race wins and five top five feature runs, Gruel leads fellow former SBS racer Michael Barnes by a scant 12.5 points heading into this Saturday’s $5 admission track championship finale presented by Bosco’s Food Market and U-Pull U-Save Auto Parts.
This is not the first year Gruel has been in the thick of the championship battle, in fact since winning the SBS title in 2009 for Tim Barbeau and moving to the Supermodified division in 2010, Gruel has never finished outside of the top ten in the Novelis Supermodified driver’s championship.
Three times Gruel has finished in the top five of the championship with a career best runner-up effort coming in 2014 in a weekly grudge match with eventual champion Otto Sitterly.
This season, despite not winning a feature event, Gruel has held the championship lead on three different occasions including the last two events of the season leading to this weekend’s finale.
Saturday’s action at Oswego Speedway will feature a 50-lap Novelis Supermodified main event as well as 30-lap Pathfinder Bank SBS feature presented by U-Pull U-Save Auto Parts and Bosco’s Food Market with green flag racing scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
The season’s second driver autograph session will also take place at 5:15 p.m. and fans are encouraged to wear teal to support Ovarian Cancer Awareness.
Adult general admission will be set at only $5 for the evening with kids 16 and under free with paid adult.
