James H. Lee, Civil War Medal of Honor recipient, will be remembered and honored at the annual Oswego Town Memorial Day Service, May 26, 10 a.m. at Oswego Town Rural Cemetery, Cemetery Road, Fruit Valley, NY.
Mr. Lee was in the Battle of the Kearsage and Alabama 150 years ago next month and for his bravery and valor was given the Medal of Honor.
Mr. Lee rests in the cemetery with his wife, Julia Place Lee.
The US Navy will be represented, placing a special wreath on Mr. Lee’s grave.
Retired Navy officer Theodore Panayotoff will be present for this special time.
As usual, the names of veterans of Oswego Town beginning at the Reveloutionary War will be read.
Music and prayers will bring the attendess together as they gather to pay tribute on Memorial Day.
Wreaths will also be placed on the graves of Dr. Mary E. Walker the first female recipient of the Medal of Honor and Elmina Spencer, Civil War nurse.
