Oswego Town Volunteer FD Receives $76,000 Assistance to Firefighters Grant

In 2009, the Oswego Town Volunteer Fire Department submitted an extensive grant application to FEMA for financial assistance through their Assistance to Firefighters grant program. Recently the volunteers found out that they have been awarded $76,000 in funding to purchase much needed Emergency Response equipment.

With the grant, the Oswego Town Volunteer Fire Department will be purchasing twenty-seven sets of firefighting turnout gear and a new defibrillator. Each set of turnout gear consists of a coat, pants and a helmet and provides the volunteer members with the most up-to-date personal protection equipment. This equipment is vital to the health and safety of each firefighter. One advanced life support defibrillator will allow the members of the Oswego Town Volunteer Fire Department to provide the very best response to fire and medical emergencies in the Town of Oswego. This device will also enable us to utilize the newest technology to better serve our firefighters and community residents.

The members of the Oswego Town Volunteer Fire Department extend their sincere appreciation to Senator Schumer’s office for the support he and his staff provided to both the fire department and community.
