At Tuesday’s meeting, the board cited John Rucynski as part of Operation Recognition.

Rucynski was a command sergeant major in the US Army. He served with the Marine Corps in Vietnam in 1965. He has served in a variety of other capacities for the military over the years.

After leaving the military he worked for the NY State Police for a number of years.

Operation Recognition began back in the 1990s to recognize World War and Korean veterans who never took part in graduation ceremonies with their high school classes.

“If anyone knows of someone in their family, a friend who might not have received a high school diploma because they were in the service, please contact the district clerk’s office and we will move forward with getting that person a deserved diploma,” District Clerk Bill Foley said.

He can be reached at 341-2020.
