Oswego Volleyball Team Falls To Central Square

Oswego’s volleyball team fell to Central Square Monday in four games, winning the third game, 25-19 but falling 20-25, 23-25, 19-25.

After his team’s last win, coach Mike Shea notes that his team seems to let the opponents score early, forcing the Bucs to mount a comeback in order to win.  He said at the time that that style of play wouldn’t survive once league play began.

“In each game that we lost we spotted them 6-7 points early on and it came back to hurt us this time,” he said.  “The team does a great job of playing with a sense of urgency when we’re about to lose and everyone is going hard after each ball.

“I think we got beat tonight by a team that we’re better than.”

Shea singled out Kevin O’Connor’s setting.  He had 34 assists in the game. “His hands were good and for the most part he was making really good decisions on where to put the ball,” Shea said. “He’s shown a vast improvement on his foot work.”

Dave Abare had 16 kills, Gary Carpentier has 11 kills and 10 digs. “Ian Van Wert (8 kills, 2 aces) also showed us again that he’s a great option to be able to put a ball away when we really need it,” Shea said.

The Bucs are 2-2.
