Oswego Wins V-Ball Tourney Crown

OSWEGO – The Oswego Girls’ JV Volleyball team won the Marcellus Volleyball Tournament over the weekend.

In the overall pool play Oswego finished in 1st place by going 7-1, with that record put the Bucs in the semi-final match up with Skaneateles.

Oswego defeated Skaneateles 25-14 and 25-18 to move onto the championship match with FM.

FM played a very good match and served the ball very well.

FM won the first set 25-18 and the Bucs responded by winning the next two sets 25-12 and 18-16 to win the championship.

“The format of this tournament is not one we have played in before so it was a little different as the day progressed. We did not play 2 of the teams that were here so we did not have a chance to see all the competition we could possible face throughout the day. Going 7-1 and finishing 1st overall shows how well we started our day out.

We settled in as the day progressed. When the semifinal game began we were prepared to play Skaneateles and we played a fast and quick game with them which is what we wanted.  When we got to the championship match with FM they put us back on our heels a little as their serving game was very good – they did not miss a serve the first set and it really forced us to play better defense.

The second set we came out with more aggressive offense and had several great kills in the second set.

The third set was a lot of good back and forth volleyball and girls from both sides of the net not willing to give up a point.

We were behind 8-4 when we switched sides of the net and after that we got the ball back and maintained a better speed and tone to finish the match.

I am very proud of how well the girls played today, it was a long day of volleyball and they handled the format of this day very well. We have one match this week against Auburn and then we have just a few weeks left of our season and one final tournament to go.”
