OSWEGO, NY – The Oswego YMCA will be offering an afterschool Youth Fit & Performance program starting September 21.
The program will meet every Monday, Wednesday and Friday for five weeks at 3 p.m. for middle school aged students and at 4 p.m. for elementary school students.
Parents can request to have their child bussed directly to the YMCA from school by completing an alternate transportation request for at their child’s school main office.
This afterschool fitness program will provide an opportunity for parents to keep kids active afterschool during an hour of physical activity followed by a half hour for kids to bring and enjoy a snack and/or study break.
The program will be lead by coaches Morgan Defazio and Kevin Koberger of the Oswego YMCA and is designed to develop children into physically strong kids of strong character.
Classes will focus on sports specific skills to help improved performance and each individual’s level of fitness.
Kids do not have to be an athlete to participate in this program.
“The benefits of a strength, agility and endurance program provide numerous benefits to kids,” said Trish Levine, director of Health and Wellness at the Oswego YMCA. “There are lifetime benefits to participating in these programs.”
Levine noted that obesity has doubled in children and tripled in adolescents in the past 30 years.
Keeping your child active can also result in a 40% improvement of academic scores.
