OSWEGO COUNTY – The Oswego County Health Department announces updates to its calendar marking National Public Health Week, Monday, April 6 through Sunday, April 12.
Another “Lunch and Learn” activity has been added – an information session about ticks and mosquitoes from its Environmental Health Division. It runs from 2 to 3 p.m. on Thursday, April 9.
“This division of our department works to protect residents from environmental threats,” said Oswego County Deputy Public Health Director Jodi Martin. “Responsibilities include monitoring drinking water, food safety, lead poisoning, rabies clinics and exposure response, tick prevention, mosquito surveillance and much more.
“This session is great opportunity for people to brush up on some protection tips to help safeguard themselves and their families as they head back outside this spring,” she added.
The health department also reminds residents to complete the required registration form for the Citizen Preparedness session planned for 1 p.m. on Tuesday, April 7.
“This is an important session to help individuals and families learn how to prepare for disasters – whether it’s a severe winter storm with high snowfall, wind storms causing power outages, flooding from excess rain and snowmelt, or a variety of other situations,” said Oswego County Associate Public Health Educator Diane Oldenburg.
“This workshop will help attendees learn how to prepare for, respond to and recover from these and other emergencies,” she added. “They will learn how to develop a family emergency plan, stock up on supplies; plus, each family that attends will receive one preparedness kit.”
