CORTLAND, NY – The State University of New York Athletic Conference has recognized Oswego State field hockey’s Sarita Charap for the second-straight week as its Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending October 12, 2014.
It is the third time this season that the freshman has earned the award out of a possible seven weeks.
In a 1-1 week for Oswego, Charap, one of the nation’s leading goalies, continued her stellar play.
On Tuesday, the freshman held St. John Fisher College’s nationally-ranked scoring offense to just two goals in a 2-0 defeat.
Those two goals were well below the Cardinals’ 31st-ranked 3.17 goals per game.
Charap managed to slow the Fisher offense with 12 saves, just one shy of her career-best outing.
The following day, the Ocean City, NJ, native collected her second shutout of the season and of her career, holding host Elmira College scoreless with six saves in a 3-0 victory.
Charap and the Lakers will host Morrisville State College at 4 p.m. on Wednesday for a conference matchup.
