OSWEGO, NY — Oz Roller Derby (OzRD) will bring back fast-moving, co-ed renegade roller derby to Oswego this Saturday at the Oswego YMCA Armory.
Doors open at 5 p.m. and the first jam whistle blows at 6 p.m.
Renegade roller derby is similar to, yet very different from, most popular versions of roller derby played in upstate New York.
Renegade derby is identified as ‘No Rules’ derby because there are no penalties assigned to skaters.
There are basic rules for timing, scoring, blocking and general gameplay and they are all very similar to other forms of derby. Some key differences include no stopping on the track, legal player takedowns and both male and female skaters compete on the track at the same time.
Spectators find this form of derby easy to understand, fast-paced and exciting.
“This second bout in our wiinter season should prove to be very entertaining” said Phil Gailinas, OzRD head coach and skater. “The teams we play are seasoned and have a great sense of how to engage the audience. Every bout has been close and very competitive.”
Tickets are $7 with children 10 and under free. Tickets will be available at the door or online at www.OzRollerDerby.com
