Oz Roller Girls Open House, Recruitment Night Slated

OSWEGO — The Oz Roller Girls invite the community to an open house/recruitment night at 7 p.m. Sept. 17 for those interested in learning more about the sport and how they can participate.

Attendees can meet members of the Oz Roller Girls, see roller derby demonstrations, hear about the fitness benefits of participating and ask questions about the sport or the league.

The event, free and open to the public, will take place in the OzZone, the former Real Deals store, in Oswego’s Midtown Plaza.

Visitors can learn more about various opportunities as skaters, referees, non-skating officials and other volunteer positions.

The community also can see live roller derby on Sept. 15, when the Oz Roller Girls host Assault City Roller Derby’s Assault Squad in Oswego’s Crisafulli Rink.

Doors open at 5 p.m. with a 6 p.m. start for the superhero-themed bout, titled “Star Pass of Doom.”

Tickets for the Sept. 15 bout cost $15 for trackside VIP, $10 for general admission, $5 for kids age 4 to 12, with children 3 and under admitted free.
