OSWEGO — The Oz Roller Girls used a big second-half rally to overcome the Albany All-Stars A Team 219-173 on May 5 in Crisafulli Rink.
Masso-Kiss-Tic Mandy led the Oz attack with 97 points. Crushed Red Pepper added 78, AJent Mayhem 23 and Abbie Cadaver 21 for the home team. Scarlett O’Hackya led Albany’s jammers with 71 points, with Miss Amerwreckya adding 24 and Explosive Daria 23 for the All-Stars.
Ready to avenge an earlier loss, Albany jumped out to a fast start when Scarlett O’Hackya picked up 22 points in the first jam. Abbie Cadaver scored 10 for Oz in the next jam, but Sweet Dee Bacle’s 10-pointer for Albany gave the visitors a 36-10 lead.
The teams traded points for a while until Albany’s Explosive Daria racked up a 15-point jam to put the All-Stars up 73-34.
An eight-point jam by Masso-Kiss-Tic Mandy and nine-point effort by AJent Mayhem brought Oz back to within 84-59, but outstanding defense by both teams minimized scoring chances for each other.
Masso-Kiss-Tic Mandy’s four points at the end of the half brought Oz within 90-70 by intermission.
Just when Scarlett O’Hackya’s 15-point jam gave the All-Stars a 114-81 cushion, Oz mounted an intense comeback.
A 25-point outburst by Masso-Kiss-Tic Mandy followed by 15 points from Crushed Red Pepper suddenly gave Oz a stunning 121-114 lead.
Scarlett O’Hackya responded with eight points of her own to put Albany up 122-121, then Oz recaptured the lead after a fierce jam with Masso-Kiss-Tic Mandy scoring 15 points vs. Ms. Amerwreckya’s 13.
The teams battled neck-and-neck until Masso-Kiss-Tic Mandy broke free for a 29-point jam to give Oz a 177-138 lead. A later 20-point rally by Crushed Red Pepper all but sealed the deal, and Oz hung on for the 219-173 victory to improve their 2012 record to 3-1.
MVPs for Oz went to Masso-Kiss-Tic Mandy for top jammer and Medusa’s Might — playing in her last game for Oz before moving to New Hampshire — for heavy hitter. Jammer Scarlett O’Hack-ya and blocker Great White Shart took home Albany’s MVP honors.
The next Oz home bout will start at 6 p.m. June 2, in Crisafulli Rink vs. the North Country Lumber Jills.
Tickets cost $15 for trackside VIP, $10 for general admission, $5 for children 4 to 12 with kids 3 and under admitted free.
