Parish, NY – Bridget Swartz, library director of the Parish Public Library announces the library will feature the photography of Krista Alsworth.
Krista is a self-taught photographer and specializes in outdoor-wildlife photography.
The dates for this show are February/March.
A life–long resident of Parish, she recalls her love of photography began at a very early age when her father bought the family a camera with a zoom lens.
She was delighted to be able to use the camera and took pictures of trees, skylines and local buildings, compiling scrapbooks of her handiwork.
She took one photography course while in college, where she learned the basic techniques of picture taking, film processing, and matting.
Krista said, “I am very pleased to be asked by the library to do this solo show. But the driving reason to do it was to highlight the desire for the continuation of a local photo contest in Parish.”
The Greater Area Chamber of Commerce for the last five years have sponsored a ‘Focus on Parish’ photo contest, but due to funding issues, decided not to continue this year’s contest.
Krista said she has had inquiries on the subject and would like to see the sponsorship picked up by some other forward looking community oriented group.
Swartz indicates once or twice a year the library highlights a local artist from the community, giving the artist visibility and also making it possible for all to enjoy these original works of art.
The Parish Public Library is located at 3 Church St.
The library is open Monday 9 a.m. – 5 p.m., Wednesday noon – 5 p.m., Thuursday 7 – 9 p.m. and Saturday 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.
