OSWEGO, NY – Kelly Moore, an associate at Oneida Wal-Mart, enrolled in a leadership academy training her to be a store manager.
On Thursday, she told the Oswego Sunrise Rotary about Wal-Mart’s efforts to become involved in community service.
Wal-Mart encourages its employees to volunteer for worthy service projects.
In other parts of the country they have helped stock a food bank. Wal-Mart associates volunteered to collect food and then delivered it to the food pantry.
They have painted and cleaned a day care center in a church. Wal-Mart also provides money and grants to help the community.
Mrs. Moore is working with the Fulton store to help them expand their community service.
The concept of a partnership between non-profits and business can expand service to their communities, she said.
The business can assist the non-profit in their service to the community.
Other businesses have assisted community non-profits.
Banks have closed their branches and their employees have painted and repaired museums and civic buildings, school and parks.
