Pastoral Changes Announced In The Diocese of Syracuse


SYRACUSE, NY – The Most Reverend Robert J. Cunningham, Bishop of Syracuse has released the most recent pastoral appointments and changes in the Diocese of Syracuse.

Additional pastoral changes will be announced in the near future.

The changes are:

Reverend John W. Canorro currently serving as Pastor of Holy Trinity Church in Fulton, N.Y. is appointed Pastor of St. Rose of Lima Church, North Syracuse, effective July 1, 2017.

Reverend Richard B Dunn, currently Pastor of St. Mary Church in Hamilton and its Mission, St. Joan of Arc Church in Morrisville is appointed Pastor of St. Mary of the Lake, Skaneateles, effective July 1, 2017.

Reverend Gerard F. Lupa currently serving the parishes of St. Joseph Church, Oxford and Immaculate Conception Church, Greene has been appointed Administrator of St. Malachy Church in Sherburne and St. Theresa of the Infant Jesus Church in New Berlin, effective July 1, 2017.

Reverend John J. Kurgan currently serving as Pastor of Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Vestal is appointed Pastor of Holy Cross Church, DeWitt, effective July 1, 2017.

Reverend Daniel M. Caruso who has served as Pastor of Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter Church is now appointed Pastor of both, Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter Church and the linked parish of St. John the Baptist/Holy Trinity Church in Syracuse, effective July 1, 2017.

Reverend Lukasz R. Kozlowski currently serving Parochial Vicar at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Utica and Our Lady of the Rosary Church in New Hartford is appointed as Administrator at St. Bernard’s Church in Waterville and St. Joseph’s Church in Oriskany Falls, effective July 1, 2017.

These additional parish linkages are taking place within the diocese effective July 1, 2017:

Reverend Christopher J. Ballard currently serving as Pastor of St. James Church in Syracuse will now become Pastor of the newly linked parishes of St. James and  Our Lady of Lourdes Church under the new name of Our Lady of Hope Church.

Reverend Michael P. Galuppi currently Pastor of Our Lady of Good Counsel, Endicott will become Pastor of the newly linked parishes of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church and St. Ambrose Church, Endicott.

Reverend Clarence F. Rumble currently Pastor of Holy Family Church in Endwell will become Pastor of the newly linked parishes of Holy Family Church in Endwell and Most Holy Rosary, Maine.

The following are priest retirements currently taking place within the diocese:

Reverend Joseph M. Larkin retired from Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, Minetto effective March 2, 2017.

Reverend Lester E. Smith retiring from St. Malachy Church, Sherburne and St. Theresa, New Berlin Church, effective July 1, 2017.

Reverend Paul V. Carey retiring from St. Bernard Church, Waterville and its mission, St. Joseph Church in  Oriskany Falls, effective July 1, 2017.

Reverend Monsignor J. Robert Yeazel retiring from Holy Cross Church, DeWitt, effective July 1, 2017.

Reverend Charles S. Vavonese, Parochial Vicar at Holy Cross Church, DeWitt; Director of Formation for Ministry; Coordinator of Public Policy; and Director of Disabilities Ministries retiring, effective July 1, 2017.

Reverend Abraham L. Esper retiring from St. Patrick/St. Anthony Church in Chadwicks, N.Y., effective July 1, 2017.

Reverend Thomas J. McGrath retiring from St. Mary of the Lake Church in Skaneateles, effective July 1, 2017.

Reverend Donald E. Bourgeois retiring from St. Ambrose Church in Endicott, effective July 1, 2017.

Reverend Monsignor James M. Kennedy retiring from St. Rose of Lima Church, North Syracuse effective July 1, 2017.

Reverend John S. Finnegan retiring from St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Baldwinsville, N.Y. effective July 1, 2017.

Reverend Joseph F. Kehoe retiring from St. Francis of Assisi Church in Durhamville and St. Therese of the Infant Jesus Church in Munnsville (the Oneida Catholic Community), effective July 1, 2017.

Reverend Thomas P. Fitzpatrick retiring from Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Syracuse, effective July 1, 2017.

Reverend Clarence J. Cerwonka retiring from Most Holy Rosary Church, Maine, N.Y., effective July 1, 2017.
