A woman from Phoenix drowned this week at her son’s summer camp in the North Country.
State Police say Sean M. Johnson drove to his camp on the shore of Black Lake in Macomb, St. Lawrence County. Macomb is about 10 miles northwest of Gouverneur.
He went to the camp because his mother, Kathleen Johnson, 65, of Phoenix was staying alone at the camp. She had not answered his phone calls for the past few days.
Police say Johnson found his mother’s body in about eight inches of water among a manual boat lift. Kathleen Johnson had told her son she was going to clean barnacles from a boat.
An autopsy determined she had died several days earlier and the cause of death was drowning. There was no evidence of foul play and the death was ruled an accident by police.
