Fulton’s varsity boys soccer team lost its opening game, 1-0, to East Syracuse-Minoa on Friday despite having control of the ball for much of the contest.
Saturday, the Red Raider boys were on their way to doing that all over again.
Faith Heritage scored very early in the game on their first of only two shots on goal the entire game. From that point forward, Fulton controlled the ball, taking shot after shot without success.
Faith Heritage goalkeeper Chris Cunningham stopped a remarkable 24 shots.
Eventually, the pressure paid off.
Tyler Crandall bent a corner kick perfectly into the upper far corner of the goal for Fulton’s first score, with less than 15 minutes to play. Not long after, he assisted on a second goal to give the Red Raiders their first victory of the season and the first win of any sport on the new turf field at G. Ray Bodley High.
Coach Dave Wilson was unhappy with his squad’s play. He said they made some nice individual plays but played poorly as a team.
He singled out only Crandall as having played well.
