OSWEGO – Former Oswego High School softball standout pitchers Katie Frawley (Class of 2002) and Abby Martin (Class of 2007) will join the staff of the 24th Annual Lady Buccaneer Softball Mini Camp that will be held June 30 – July 2, according to camp director Mike McCrobie.
There are still openings in the camp, that will be held at the Oswego High School fields for girls ages 9-16 who want to sharpen their skills and have some softball fun.
Martin and Frawley are two of only three Lady Buccaneer players to have been named East Regional High School All-Americans by the National Fastpitch Coachs’ Association.
After stellar careers at OHS, each went on to college successes, Frawley at Illinois Wesleyan University and Martin at Cortland State.
Frawley now coaches high school softball at T.C. Williams High School in Alexandria, Va., while working full-time for the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Martin has completed two years on the coaching staff at Cortland State where she helped lead the Red Dragons to the Division III college world series in 2013.
“It’s always a pleasure to have Lady Buccaneer alumni return to work softball camp, but to have pitching coaches with the experience and expertise that Kate and Abby offer is a fantastic opportunity for Oswego girls,” McCrobie said.
There will be a total of nine hours of quality instruction throughout the three-day camp.
Activities will include throwing, position play, base running, team defense, hitting, bunting, sliding and mini-games.
The camp will run daily from 9 a.m. until noon for ages 9-12, and from 1-4 p.m. for players ages 13-16.
The camp has a rain date of July 3.
The cost is $50 per player.
There is a sibling discount available, where additional players from the same family can enroll for $40 each.
Enrollment is limited to the first 60 players.
All players will receive a commemorative Oswego softball souvenir as well as a player’s report card.
In addition to Frawley and Martin, veteran OHS softball coaches McCrobie, Ron Ahart and Brad Shannon will lead instruction.
The rest of the staff will be comprised of other current and former Oswego High School players.
Proceeds from the camp will help defray the cost of the high school team’s bi-annual spring trip south.
