PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – Plattsburgh kept the Oswego State men’s lacrosse team (7-2, 0-2 SUNYAC) off the scoreboard until the fourth quarter, as the Cardinals (7-5, 1-1 SUNYAC) handed the Lakers a 13-4 loss on Saturday afternoon. Plattsburgh opened the game with six goals in the opening eight minutes forcing Oswego State to play from behind. Laker goalie Ian O’Brien (Sr., Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) finished the game with 21 saves in the losing effort.
Joey Kramer scored the first of two goals less than a minute into the first quarter to trigger the Cardinals’ initial run. Plattsburgh got off 16 shots in the frame that saw three other players score, while Oswego State managed just one shot.
Tim Lawrence made it a 7-0 game in the home team’s favor over three minutes into the second quarter for the only goal of the stanza.
Both teams were kept off the scoreboard until late in the third quarter when Anthony Pafundi netted a man-up goal and Lawrence posted his second goal.
Dan Allgeier (Jr., Bayport, N.Y.) got the Lakers on the board over one minute into the fourth quarter after receiving a pass from Cody Hoose (Fr., Syracuse, N.Y.), who finished with two assists. Oswego State later added markers from Brandon Dzwonkowski (Fr., Syracuse, N.Y.), Brian Slattery (Fr., St. James, N.Y.), and Britt Leone (Sr., Schenectady, N.Y.), but the deficit proved too great to overcome.
The Lakers went 0-for-5 during man-up opportunities, while Plattsburgh went 1-for-3. The Cardinals owned a 35-23 advantage in ground balls, and won 14 of 20 face-offs.
Plattsburgh goalie Gordie Gehring finished with nine saves.
