PLATTSBURGH, NY – The Oswego State men’s basketball team fell to Plattsburgh 70-66 on the road on Friday evening.
This is the Lakers first loss in SUNYAC play, dropping their conference record to 5-1 and their overall to 9-4.
Plattsburgh goes to 8-3 overall and 4-1 in the conference.
Oswego trailed by as much as 16 in the second half before making a run to bring the game close.
The Lakers slowly chipped away closing the gap to only 10 points with 13 minutes remaining in the game.
At the 8:21 mark, the team was only down by one and that’s when Alex Rawa was able to pull up from behind the arc and give the Lakers their first lead of the game.
It was a tight-knit game after that, with Plattsburgh only able to finally pull away after a Correa three pointer put the Cardinals up by five with a minute left.
Walter Sampson led the Lakers in scoring with 14 and also had six assists and three rebounds to fill up the stat sheet. Ian Schupp, Kyle Covley and Dustin Pond all were in double figure points as well, scoring 12, 11 and 10, respectively.
Rawa was big on the glass, fetching a team leading 11 rebounds to go along with his nine points.
Men’s basketball will remain on the road as they travel to Potsdam for a 2 p.m. tip off Saturday (Jan. 17).
