OSWEGO – The Oswego Players will present a second weekend of the long-running musical, “The Fantasticks,” starting Friday July 13 as the third production of its 80th anniversary season.
“The Fantasticks” was written by Harvey Schmidt with lyrics by Tom Jones, tells an allegorical tale of two neighbors who try to trick their children into falling in love by pretending to feud.
When this strategy fails the parents hire a professional problem solver, who is a part of a traveling acting troupe, to test in the children’s relationship.
This results in heartache and confusion, and eventually reunification, culminating with the famous song “Try to Remember.”
The Oswego Players’ production of the play features Liam Fitzpatrick and Taylor Peck as the young lovers, Matt and Luisa: Christopher James and Keith Arlington, as the conniving fathers, Hucklebee and Bellamy; local radio personality and veteran actor, Bob Brown, as the mysterious, El Gallo; Roy Van Noustrand and Peter Fekete as Henry and Mortimer; and Shannon Thompkins as the Mute.
The show will be directed by Oswego Players’ President Emeritas Inez Manor Parker, with Abel Searor as music director and Carol Dufrane as stage manager.
Production staff also includes light designer Tom Fazzio and set designer Ken Snow.
Tammy Wilkinson is the show’s producer.
The show is presented by special arrangement with Musical Theater International.
“The Fantasticks” is scheduled to be performed on July 7, 13, 14, at 8 p.m. and July 8 and 15 at 2 p.m. at the Frances Marion Brown Theater.
