Sheriff’s deputies believe an Oswego woman drove across the center line of Route 48 last week because she was dealing with a text message.
Last Friday, Ashley B. Yarman, 18, of 8 Birch Lane, Apt. 34B, Oswego was driving along Route 48 with a passenger when her car crossed the center line of the road. It slammed into a motorcycle being driven by Anthony J. DeSantis, 54, of 1875 County Route 7, Oswego.
DeSantis suffered serious injuries and had to be flown to a Syracuse hospital for emergency treatment. Yarman’s car ended up in the Oswego River. She and her passenger swam to safety.
Thursday, police issued Yarman a ticket for failing to keep right. The department alleges that she may have been distracted. Police say she had just received a text message and was looking for a pen or pencil to write down some information.
