Barclay, Community Partners Announce 12Th Annual ‘Tithe My Shoes’ Charity Drive

Assembly Minority Leader Will Barclay (R,C-Pulaski) today announced that he is once again participating in the annual “Tithe My Shoes” charity drive, an effort to collect new or gently used shoes and boots for the Rescue Mission with an emphasis on children’s shoes. The 12th annual “Tithe My Shoes” drive is spearheaded by Millard “Mudd” Murphy, the former mayor of Central Square and executive director of the Oswego County Conference of Mayors.

“It is an honor to collaborate with Mudd Murphy on this shoe drive once again.  Mudd is truly dedicated to ensuring that people have the shoes and warmth that they need in the winter months. It’s amazing to see the generosity displayed by our community as well,” said Leader Barclay.

“I can’t thank Leader Barclay enough for what he and his office do to help encourage donations with SUNY Oswego, local municipalities, and churches for this initiative. It is an inspiration to see the generosity of so many who share in this shoe collection—whether hosting a collection site or donating shoes—I am grateful for any help in reaching our goal this year,” said Murphy.

Shoes will be collected until Wednesday, Dec. 10, so they can be repaired and delivered in time for the holidays. Murphy works with Ralph Rotella, owner of the Discount Shoe Repair store in Syracuse, who donates his time to clean and fix shoes before delivering them to the Rescue Mission. Last year, Rotella collected more than 43,120 pairs of shoes, and keeps raising the bar every year.
