The signature achievement of this year’s legislative session came in the form of an unprecedented $254 billion budget, while the most glaring impediments to an improved quality of life here went unresolved. The state’s cost-of-living remains too high for working class families, public safety continues to be neglected, spending levels are unsustainable, and the exodus of residents and businesses is unlikely to change.
In the post-budget race to the finish, Democrats passed bills to allow doctor-assisted suicide, restrict the use of natural gas as a reliable power source, increased household costs through misguided environmental regulation, and gerrymandered judicial districts to tip elections in their favor. These are all disappointing steps in the wrong direction.
Republicans will keep fighting for lower prices, fewer regulations, and a commitment to restore order and safety in New York communities. These are the basic responsibilities of all elected officials, and precisely what the people of New York expect and deserve.”
