OSWEGO — Port City Roller Derby and the Syracuse Silver Knights pro indoor soccer team have kicked off a promotional partnership, starting with this weekend’s season-ending roller derby doubleheader on Sept. 14, in Oswego’s Crisafulli Rink.
The partnership will include appearances at each other’s events, community cross promotions and other arrangements to promote the two family-friendly leagues to Central New York audiences.
For the season-ending Port City Roller Derby doubleheader, titled Anchor Management, doors will open at 5 p.m. with a 6 p.m. whistle for the event.
Port City’s A team, the Breakwall Bombshells, will headline the evening by taking on the Capital City Derby Dolls Dolly Rogers from Ottawa. PCRD’s B squad will play the Finger Lakes Lunachicks.
A portion of proceeds will support Suicide Awareness Voices of Education. The local chapter that aims to prevent suicide through public awareness and education was co-founded by Port City Roller Derby member J-Rock-It. PCRD members also will take part in the group’s Stride to SAVE Lives on Saturday morning, Sept. 21, on the SUNY Oswego campus.
Bout advance tickets, available online at www.portcityrollerderby.org or from any league member, cost $10 for adults, $5 for children ages 5 to 12, with children 4 and under admitted free.
Tickets can be purchased at the door but will cost $12 for adults. Attendees interested in trackside seating are encouraged to bring their own chairs.
Port City Roller Derby is produced by Oz Roller Girls Inc., a member-run nonprofit organization dedicated to athletic competition, empowerment and supporting its community. PCRD always seeks skaters, refs and other volunteers for its adult (18 and over) and juniors (ages 10 to 17) teams, and will provide training.
