Whoot!  The Subway and Dollar General are now open!

It sure looks like they are both being very well received here in Parish.

It’s great to welcome new businesses and have choices.

The Mills and Petrie Memorial Gymnasium were bustling with meetings on October 9.

The Parish Economic Development TaskForce met at 8 a.m. and that evening the Parish Town Historical Society had their monthly meeting.

The Parish Community Affairs, Recreation, Parks and Preservation committee also met on Oct. 9.

The active group is looking for a few more Parish area residents to join in the efforts to improve the quality of life here in the Parish community.

They meet once a month.

The popular Parish United Methodist Women’s Annual Fall Bazaar – Bake Sale and Luncheon will be held at the Parish United Methodist Church, South Railroad Street on October 19 from 9 a.m. through 2 p.m.

The delicious luncheon that everyone raves about begins at 11 a.m. with homemade soup, sandwich, cookie and beverage.

October 21 at the Parish Public Library you are welcome to attend a class on the eMedia Library from the North Country Library System collection of eBooks and Audiobooks.

This class will give an overview of how this service works and what you need to know to use it.

Please choose the session in which you have a device for:

Kindle session includes all Kindles, Fires and traditional e-inks screens. Class Starts 1 p.m.

Mobile Device session includes your Android devices, Apple products and Nook HD/Colors. Class starts at 2 p.m.

Computer/Laptop/e-ink screen Nook (the basic Nook) also has its own session. Class starts at 3 p.m.

Don’t forget to bring your device with you.

The instructor will also show you the process on a spare laptop if you don’t have a laptop to bring.

The instructor is Matt Corey, online resources consultant, North Country Library System.

This class is sponsored by the Parish Public Library and NCLS.

The Parish Community Preschool will host its sixth annual spaghetti dinner on October 25  from 4-8 p.m. at the Parish Fire Station.

There will be the dinner, a bake sale for desserts and a silent raffle.

The prices are $7 for adults, $6 for seniors, $3 for kids 12 and under, and children 3 and under eat free.

Carryout is also available.

The Parish Dining and Activity Center will host its annual Candle Light dinner on October 29 at the Parish Fire Station, 16 Union St., beginning with a social hour at 4 p.m. and a chicken cordon bleu dinner served at 5 p.m.

The theme will be “Halloween” so please come dressed up in a costume if you would like.

The entertainment this year will be the Lisa Lee Duo with great music, dancing and fun with costumes and door prizes, too!

All of this for $5.
