OSWEGO TOWN, NY – Carol Fox of Oswego displays some of her handmade jewelry that she will have for sale at her booth at the Oswego Town Historical Society Craft Show / Flea Market.
The Historical Society is putting on the show as a fundraiser for its Dr. Mary Walker statue project.
Walker, a Civil War physician, was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor in 1865 for her extraordinary service, and is the only woman of the Civil War, or any war, to have been awarded the Medal of Honor.
Dr. Mary Walker, Oswego Town’s most famous resident, was born in November 1832 in Oswego Town.
She passed away in February of 1919 and was buried in Oswego Town’s Rural Cemetery.
The Oswego Town Historical Society has been working on erecting a statue in Walker’s honor for several years.
The craft/flea market will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with many craft vendors and flea market booths inside and outside the Town Hall just off the intersection of Johnson Road and County Route 20.
A bake sale and white elephant table will also take place during the day.
