OSWEGO – With one-third of United States residents over the age of 20 experiencing high cholesterol levels, a risk factor for heart attacks and strokes, a new field of medicine has emerged, lipidology.
Oswego Heath’s Primecare Medical Practice in Central Square is fortunate to have on staff Certified Lipidologist Timothy Tramontana, MD. According to the American Board of Clinical Lipidology, there are less than 700 lipidologists in the United States.
To become certified Dr. Tramontana took part in rigorous training in cholesterol management, cardiovascular risk assessment and intervention.
As a lipidologist, Dr. Tramontana treats individuals with a high cholesterol levels including those who have certain familial genotypes predisposing to cholesterol abnormalities.
He also cares for patients who may need additional therapies beyond simple statins.
The Primecare Medical Practice is located in the lower level of the Central Square Medical Center.
The practice is now accepting new patients and also includes Heather Finger, MD, Vandana Patil, MD, and Kamal Gautam, MD, along with Claudia Krider, a physician assistant, and soon Cassandra Hunsberger, a family nurse practitioner, will join the practice.
The Primecare staff is dedicated to providing exceptional medical care, including the treatment of upper respiratory issues, sick visits, injuries, infections, rashes and sprains or strains.
The medical team can also provide physicals and smoking cessation counseling.
