OSWEGO – The Oswego County Legislature recognized Legislator John Proud on his retirement during its last meeting of the year.
Legislature Chairman Kevin Gardner presented a plaque to long-time legislator who represented residents of Mexico in District 7 for the last 22 years.
Gardner thanked him for his mentorship over the years, going back to Proud’s work as a teacher and administrator for the Mexico School District.
As a legislator, Proud continued to work with students by leading the annual Oswego County Government Day program, which provides a hands-on, inside look at the workings of local government to seventh grade students from across the county.
Legislator Proud is known for his wit, eloquence, and ability to find solutions for complicated problems facing the Legislature.
He was the chairman of the Legislature’s Health Committee for many years and will be honored by having the road leading to the Oswego County Health Department’s Bunner Street Complex in Oswego designated with his name.
