OSWEGO, NY – The Public Computing Center (PCC) at Oswego Public Library holds free two-hour workshops every Saturday to meet the needs of local community members to extend their basic computer knowledge.
In April the PCC is presenting the following Saturday workshops:
Quicken Basics 10 a.m.- noon and 1 – 3 p.m. Quicken is personal finance and money management program similar to Quikbooks. The afternoon session is a repeat of the morning session. People wishing to learn to use a software application to manage their money on a computer can attend either session.
Blogging 10 a.m. – noon. Do you enjoy journaling? Do you want to journal your thoughts, share them with others on the Internet, and converse with others on whatever topics you choose? That is what blogging is all about. In this workshop, you learn to post a web log or blog of your thoughts and opinions, and get responses from readers.
Buying and Selling on EBay 1 – 3 p.m. Get rid of unwanted items quickly and easily and make money on them, or find that special thing you’ve been yearning to collect on EBay. This workshop teaches the ins and outs of using EBay to safely and securely buy and sell things on the Internet.
Pinterest – 10 a.m. to noon. In this workshop, you’ll learn how to create an online bulletin board that you pin your interests on and from which you can share your interests with family and friends. Pinterest is a social networking site that helps people locate Internet images, videos and other objects related to their interests, pin them on an Internet bulletin board, and share them with others.
Dropbox – 1- 3 p.m. Dropbox is a free service that lets you bring photos, videos, and documents anywhere and share them easily. You’ll never have to attach to email things you want to share again.
Learning Languages Using Free Websites 10 a.m. – noon. Would you like to take foreign language lessons for free, at your own pace? In this workshop you’ll learn where to find and use free foreign language lessons on the Internet.
Digital Media Club 10 a.m. – noon. Digital Media Club offers safe, fun computer technology related activities for young people of middle school age, including playing Wii Fit.

The Public Computing Center also offers basic computer courses consisting of eight sessions each month. Introduction to Computers is already filled for the month of April.
There are a few spaces left in Internet Basics, held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to noon beginning on April 3.
Job Readiness Workshops are offered at the Public Computing Center on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
These workshops , offered cooperatively with Literacy Volunteers of Oswego County, teach people the process of successfully looking for, finding, and keeping a job.

The staff of the Public Computing Center is also available to help people with anything technology related whenever classes and workshops are not in session.
